Former Weir’s Furniture president, Daniel “Dan” The month of November saw the death of Ray Weir, 86. 19 in Dallas.
Son of founder J. From 1972 to 2003, Ray and Bea Weir led the retail company as president.
Weir oversaw the company’s first move from its original store on Knox Street to a new location in Plano, Texas. He invested not just in furniture but in Weir’s employees by showing genuine interest and commitment to their well-being and growth, living out his saying, “At Weir’s, people make a difference.”
Weir knew and understood both quality and value because he was always the visionary. He actually purchased the very first Hancock & Moore item in 1981. The first purchase order from Weir’s, which was signed by Dan Weir, was framed and hung over the president of Hancock & Moore’s desk for many years.
“Our Pawpaw, J. Ray Weir, taught the second generation, Dan and my mom, Patsy, how to lead with integrity,” said J. Mark Moore, the current president and CEO of Weir. “Dan built on Pawpaw’s solid foundation and added a cutting-edge, creative marketing strategy to take the business to the next level.”
Weir’s Furniture gained notoriety for its hand-drawn furniture advertisements and regular sales in the Dallas Morning News.
Weir was predeceased by his parents and a single niece. He is survived by his wife Martha, three sons, Blake, Brad, and Brooks, as well as by his sister, numerous nieces and nephews, and 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
All Weir’s Furniture locations will open at 1:30 p.m. in memory of Weir. on The visitation and services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, so that Weir’s friends and family can all attend and honor his life.
6:30–8:30 p.m. are set aside for visitation., On Monday, November 28, in Dallas’ Restland Memorial Park’s Memorial Chapel. Tuesday, November, will see the funeral service. 29 at 10:30 a.m. at City Church International in Dallas.
