How to Clean Your Outer Cushions?
There are two main ways to clean your Outer sofa. The covers can be cleaned outside with a hose and dish soap. You can also remove the covers from the cushions and wash them in your washing machine if stains are particularly stubborn or if you want to give your covers a good cleaning before putting them away for the winter. Be sure to save the protective film that is attached to the Velcro on the covers, as we already mentioned. If you wash them without covering the Velcro, the Velcro may snag on the fabric and cause pilling.
Outer states that its cushions are “fade-proof, stain-resistant, water-resistant and easy to clean.” Although it pained us to do so, we did expose the cushions to the elements for a few days as part of our testing to see how they would fare. In order to test the cushions’ stain-resistance, we also spilled soda on them, which is unavoidably going to happen at some point.
With just hose water, the soda washed right off. The hose and detergent also effectively removed any dirt that had seeped into the sides of the cushions, but we were unable to completely get rid of the bird poop from two of them.
Our covers have only been machine washed once, but we still think it’s a good idea because they smell wonderful and come out looking almost brand new. These were the only stains that we were unable to completely remove from the cushions, even though we were able to reduce the bird poop stains to tiny dots on the cushions.
We’ll say it again: if you buy outdoor furniture and plan to keep it outside for any length of time, your cushions will undoubtedly become soiled.
