Furniture Express by Brooks announced today that it has acquired Shelba Johnson Trucking. The new combined company will be based in Newton, North Carolina, and run under the name Brooks Furniture Xpress.
Shelba Johnson Trucking’s CEO and owner, Joe Wade, will stay on to help with the transition while the company is still in operation. 95 percent of the driver pool will be kept by Brooks, giving customers and drivers continuity.
In Thomasville, North Carolina, Brooks will take over one of the two warehouses., adding 180,000 square feet for LTL shipments and one Bath, Pennsylvania, facility with 35,000 square feet. In the transaction, Brooks also purchased the 3PL warehousing.
Additionally, Brooks will be able to pick up at a variety of vendors outside of its current delivery zone thanks to the acquisition, increasing their ability to provide customers with more goods.
Cindy Brooks, vice president, and Anthony Brooks, president and owner of Brooks Furniture Xpress, see the acquisition as an opportunity to bring together businesses that share similar values. Brooks will also provide its new clients with more technology and visibility.
With the purchase, Brooks now owns 289 trucks, 1,369 trailers, and 289 drivers altogether.
The purchase was made just over a year ago, in September 2021, when Brooks purchased Mississippi Furniture Xpress.
Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. are now included in the 28 states where BFX can provide services to the furniture industry. area, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Currently, Brooks provides service to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, and Las Vegas.
