A former employee of Lane Furniture has filed a lawsuit against the business for abruptly closing down and firing 2,700 of its employees via emails and texts sent overnight without adhering to federal WARN regulations.
here in the United States, the lawsuit District Court for the North District of Mississippi on behalf of Toria Neal and on behalf of “all other similarly situated” employees, follows Tuesday’s sudden closure of United Furniture. The defendant in the lawsuit was United Furniture Inds. and John Does 1 through 10 are named as defendants, and the company is accused of breaking the WARN Act, which calls for, among other things, 60 days’ written notice before plant closings and layoffs or 60 days’ worth of severance pay.

In Booneville, Mississippi, Jack Simpson is an attorney with Langston & Lott., is representing Neal and has requested that the case be recognized as a class action by the court.
“While no one can undo the actions that have caused so much heartache, I hope that we are able to provide some hope to the devastated families,” he said in an email to Furniture Today.
Simpson also shared a prepared statement that reads in part:
“We were devastated and cannot imagine what the affected families are going through. In response, we filed the first class action against United Furniture Industries, Inc. alleging it violated the WARN Act when terminating all 2,700 of its employees.”
